While seeking for information either to empower yourself or
to quote a line what you should care is source. It is obvious that government Medias
are the primary source of information, especially for those in third world. But
the accuracy is in question most of those countries are under dictators’
control. Printed, audio visual, streamed audio and video and published pages
are most of the media we use to our information need or entertainment.
Under are my personal view on some of information source for Ethiopian community
- ETV > the national television service which has hourly news. But I can feel the pain of the news reader once the read all the lies they may say to “Oh! How was it? Am I sweating? Next time I have to wear helmet!” They even the camera man in front of them. We have no idea if those cameras in ETV production center have a sniper that shoots if they speak the truth.
- ESAT> Washington based satellite television. They are always negative to what is going on in the country. What so ever the government is doing they have never appreciated. I don’t know how they get the budget to sustain them self like infrastructure cost and wedge. Even though the Diaspora is their main target group they are responsible to not mislead and misinform the nation. To avoid the hater among the different group, to motivate Diaspora to participate in the ongoing development of the country. They claim they are independent, are they?
- Allcomtv.com> online streaming service for ETV, TVoromia, Al Jazeera, France 24 and Russia today. I have no intelligent guess on owner but I suspect some connection with ETV itself. For sure we have a clue that the owner is not a foreigner. And if it was not owned by the government they could have a home for ESAT which is the only voice of the oppositions.
